Communityworks require Board members with specialist skills, particularly in HR and employment, project management and finance.

The Board currently meets monthly, but we also have sub groups which meet bi monthly. The plan is to move to a bi monthly Board meeting once things settle. Therefore there would be a maximum of one 2 hour meeting per month. Meetings are currently early evening although they sometimes do take place during the day.

By increasing the skills base of the 17 members of the Board , we would hope to steer Communityworks more effectively and support local people on the Board to positions of empowered community leadership.

Organisation Details

Communityworks began in 2001 and came from the wish of local people wanting to make a difference in the Otley Road and Undercliffe areas of Bradford.

The project aims to promote community cohesion, local improvement in identifying needs together with finding solutions, through support and traning, providing somewhere for everyone to come together for a wide range of activities.

We are a Children's centre focusing on under 5s and their families but we are also a community centre and community developers. We have an elderly day care centre, childrens work for 5 - 13yr olds, healthy activities, a café, nursery and crèche. We also run ESOL classes and a range of other parenting and adult learning classes.
